Frequently Asked Questions about Andrew Miller Photography
Question – Why are you expensive?
Answer – I’m not.
My packages are actually very competitively priced compared to similar packages from other photographers. That however doesn’t really answer your question! Like any other business I have overheads and cost’s that need paying as well mortgages and the like. I am very open about my pricing as you can see here and here. Want to see how my packages are broken down compared to purchasing individual items? Click here.
Question – Will you hold my date until the end of the month so I can pay the booking fee?
Answer – yep, no problem.
Not everyone can afford the booking fee (£150 by the way) straight away. I am more than happy to wait until people get paid etc.
Question – Why do you need a contract?
Answer – So I know where I’m going and when I need to be there!
The contract gives me all those little details like locations and times that you want me to be places. It also sets out what I can and can not do and what package you have asked for. It sets out the general Terms and Conditions of my work basically. You may also need a contract if you take out wedding insurance and need to make a claim. No contract – no claim.
Question – Will you re-touch the photographs?
Answer – Yes…but….
I do basic re-touching of all the images; however there is re-touching and there is re-touching! I can and will remove stress spots, smooth skin where required, brighten eye and teeth etc as standard. What I charge extra for is the full body make-over type of re-touching – slimming down waists and arms, removing tattoos. I shoot weddings from a view point of making you look great as you are. To much re-touch and the wedding photographs won’t be representative of what you really looked like on the day!
It also takes time to edit photographs to get the most potential out of them. Have a look here for a few Before and After shots.
Question – I really like a photograph and want it as a piece of ‘Wall Art’. Will you do that for me?
Answer – yes
Off course I will. However you need to be prepared about the cost of such pieces of ‘wall art’. Editing an image to bring out the best for the wall will take time and I will have to charge you for that. It isn’t a matter of a few clicks in Photoshop; it often involves several hours to get the image just right at the size you want it.
Question – How many photographs do you take on the day.
Answer – it depends…
…on how long I am going to be there; what you want me to photograph and how the photographs are edited. I would like to point out that I shoot for quality as opposed to quantity. (Any idiot with a digital camera can shoot 100+ images an hour and get one or two good ones!!). As a rule you will normally get between 300-400 photographs to choose you album from.
Question – When you say ‘all day’ you really mean you will be gone after the cake cutting don’t you?
Answer – No.
When I say ‘All day’ I mean All Day. No time limits at all. I can be there in the morning shooting those great getting ready shots at 6am if you really want me to and will continue to shoot all the way through until around 2230hrs – 2300hrs. (That is the time when people usually go from having a great time to being too drunk to remember what is going on!)
Question – How many photographs can I have in an album?
Answer – As many as you want….
I shoot using digital cameras which gives me fantastic flexibility in what I can do. I use fully digitally printed wedding albums from Graphistudio (click here to see a sample). You can have as many photographs in your album as you want with the simple proviso that the more you have the smaller they will be! I usually ask for around 80 images when designing the album.
Question – How long does it take to get my album back?
Answer – between 6 ad 8 weeks from when it goes to print.
Once you have chosen you images I then design the album. This will normally take about 2 weeks but may take longer. You need to agree on the design of the albumin writing (e-mail is fine) before I will send it to print.
Question – What are the album sizes I can have?
Answer – You can have six sizes
However you may have to pay more for a large size than the one included in your wedding package! The sizes range from 10cm x 13cm to 40cm x 50cm.
Question – How many pages can I have in the album?
Answer – The standard Graphistudio wedding albums have 20 pages
Package 4 has 30 pages. You can choose to pay for extra pages up to a maximum of 100 pages. Please be warned – a large album with 100 pages is very very heavy. Looks fantastic; but heavy!
Question – Can I have different covers on the album?
Answer – Yes.
The covers that I use for samples and that I actually prefer are called ‘Transparent’; however you can have a wide range of cover options to really make the album stand out. Click here to download the covers PDF file. Choices include:
- Crystal Glance
- Varnished metallic in a range of colour options
- Metallic in Silver or Gold with an option to have an image etched into the cover
- Leather with a very wide range of colours
- Leatherette
- Die Cut
- Cowhide
- Silk
Question – What is a pre-wedding shoot?
Answer – A great opportunity!
A pre-wedding shoot gives the three of us the chance to get to know each other a bit better. This makes it so much easier on the day when I am photographing you as we already have a rapport built up. It allows us to get some great lifestyle shots (and you get a print or two as well!) and gives me some great shots for my guests cards. Have a look here for some pre-wedding shoots.
Question – What is a Guest Card?
Answer – Something that saves you being hassled!
A guest card is a business sized card that I give out to each guest at your wedding. On it will be a great pre-wedding shoot photo and inside will be details of how your guests can get access to the secure password protected website where your wedding images will be kept online.
Question – Do I get to see the wedding photographs first? Before my guests?
Answer – Yes!
The photographs will be available to you first to view. After all, it’s only fair! I will text you the details once they are online.
Question – Can my guests buy photographs from you?
Answer – yes.
I would be a fool not to let people buy more photographs from me! That is why I give out Guest Cards (see above)
Question – Can I have a few free sample electronic images, just to see what your work is like from our pre-wedding shoot.
Answer – No.
They cost £39.99 to purchase via the website! Buy as many as you like.
Question – How expensive are the photographs to buy on the website?
Answer – Not very, in fact pretty reasonable I think.
The exact answer depends on the size of the photograph; however as a rule a simple 7″x5″ will be approximately £3.
Question – Do I get all the images on a DVD that I can print myself?
Answer – With some packages yes you do.
You can choose to purchase the DVD as an option; but to be honest if that is what you want you are better off going for a package with the DVD included – it will be cheaper in the long run. The DVD images are also (c) free so you can print as many as you want. You are not however allowed to change the images nor sell them as your own work.
Question – Why do you put a logo on the CD I got with my wedding? The images are the really small ones and they don’t print very well.
Answer – Two things here…
- The CD from your wedding is what I call a Facebook CD. The images are smaller versions designed to be put on FB and to be used so you can choose your wedding photos for the album.
- The logo is there to STOP you printing the photo’s as that would be illegal. Not that you would try and print from them, would you?
Question – If I asked you for a few hours of photography; what would you charge?
Answer – £65 per hour
I offer a small mid-week wedding photography package for £399. This gives you 5 hours of wedding photography with the same skill and professionalism as a full blown wedding. If you want me for a few hours long then I charge £65 per hour.
Question – Would you shoot a head shot for my Facebook account? The one I have is terrible!
Answer – Yes…
…and it would cost £45 for an hour sitting and you also get a free 7″x5″ print from that. If you wanted an image for FB then I would also give you the edited image suitable for FB as part of the deal. Click here for more details.
Question – Do you have Insurance?
Answer – Yes …
…and I am happy to show you to prove it! You should check with any photographer (especially wedding photographers) to see if they are insured.
